In 1919, the City of Wahpeton North Dakota was gifted a very generous donation by Orrin and Cora Leach, local business persons, and community leaders, to construct and maintain a Public Library. The Leach Public Library opened its doors in April of 1924 and continues to serve the community in the original building today. The Library serves the communities of Wahpeton and Richland County, North Dakota, with a total population of 16,529.
The Library holds microfilm and some paper copies of the local newspapers dating back to 1883, and now the convenience of having text-searchable technology in place through Advantage Archives will give our local genealogy researchers and the general public a chance to view them on-screen, to print, save and treasure it’s past.
The Leach Public Library Archive holds our local newspapers from 1883 through 1962. The collective history of Wahpeton and Richland County has been preserved for generations to come.
